The symptoms vary depending on the person. Among the most common symptoms are: tremors which involve shaking of the entire body (for example, shaking of the hands, arms, legs, jaw and face); stiff and rigid muscles; slow movements in the body; loss of balance and coordination; and difficulties walking. For most patients, tremors are the most severe symptom.
The cause of the illness is unkown and there is not a cure, but there are some treatments such as medications and surgery that will reduce the symptoms. Parkinson's is a progressive disease, which means it gets worse over time. This usually happens gradually over many years.
Scientists continue searching for the causes of Parkinson's and possible effective cures.
